staying in the bvi

I did make it my mission to go around this past fall and visit all the hotels on island and take pictures so I could help out my guests who need accomodation before or after the charter. I will say that overall, our accomodation choice on island for one night is not great. A lot of places in season now want a 3 night minimum for somewhere that I am not sure I would want to stay one night! and the high end resorts are so out of the way they are difficult to make use of. I shall be happy to work with you, to book the best choice if you have the need or desire to stay on island before or after your charter.

Do not come to Tortola, expecting to find the equivalent of the Quality Inn which just features a clean room, satellite or cable TV and internet with a free breakfast. Although we have a few places for under a hundred dollars, most are between $150.00 and $200.00 per room per night now. Again, I stress for large groups especially in season, letting me work your charter so you get off the plane and onto the yacht is a great solution.

I also questioned the establishments that, when I stopped in on a morning in hurricane season to view the property and rooms, as well as pick up brochures, would not let me see any rooms as they were "full". Believe me they weren't full and told me that I had to look at the rooms online. That is suspect when you are standing right there. Consequently, a couple hotels have come off my recommended list.

You are welcome to book your own hotels, or I will be happy to do it for you!
BVI Tourism has a comprehensive list of all the hotels, guests houses and villas on the island.

accommodations in the BVI

Hummingbird House. ph# 284-494-0039, Email: yvonnelr@surfbvi.com

Village Cay Hotel. ph# 284-494-2771, Email: Village Cay Hotel

Village Cay is close to where most yachts turnaround. I understand that most of its rooms have been upgraded, although I have been less then impressed every time I have stayed there. Having said that, it is one of the most convenient places for a night before or after your charter with good access to the yachts, a swimming pool, a restaurant bar where you can watch the boats coming and going, and walking distance to any shopping that we do have on island.

Nanny Cay Hotel. ph# 284-494-2512. Email: hotel@nannycay.com

Nanny Cay is 4-5 miles from the Roadtown marina. If your yacht is leaving out of Nanny Cay, it is your first choice.

Maria By the Sea. ph# 284-494-2595, Email: mariasbythesea@surfbvi.com

Marias by the Sea is a short walk from the Roadtown marina. Another one of the convenient hotels for one night before and after a charter. The rooms are adequate, the A/C works well, and the TV's, well that is always on BVI Cables whim anywhere! I don't find there restaurant very good but there are many within walking distance.

Long Bay Resort PDF Brochure Long Bay is on the North Coast, and one of our few all inclusive resorts. I have heard good and bad, and given the choices on island, consider it. This was one of the places where the front desk clerk would not let me see a room though. Link to their website.

Myetts PDF Brochure I have heard people who quite liked Myetts. It is in Cane Garden Bay, and the last time I was there, the surroundings of the hotel and restaurant were quite dirty, with lots of garbage around. This is one of the main cruise ship hangouts, which would make me REALLY hesitate to stay there. Link to their website.

Sebastians PDF Brochure Sebastians is in Little Apple Bay on the north side. Not much of a beach there, and if the swell is up, none, but the help was friendly, they graciously showed me as much as I wanted to see, the common areas were well presented and the food at their restaurant was very good. They do have a minimum nights stay in season. Their beachfront rooms had that slight salt damp feel throughout which you cannot get away from, but presentable. Link to their website.

Sugar Mill PDF Brochure The Sugar Mill is a place that we often recommend, although they have a three night minimum in high season, they will waive it depending on their calendar if possible. It is my favorite restaurant on the island, the rooms are nice, if lacking in a TV which I always want and they have a nicely maintained little beach area that is small but nice right across the road from them. Link to their website.

Ole Works PDF Brochure Right across the street and connected with Quito's I cannot give you too much information on it. The day I was in there the front desk clerk was too busy talking to her friends on the phone to stop and barely give me a brochure, never mind show me a room. I was obviously infringing as she did not even put her cel phone down while talking to me. Link to their website.

Treasure Isle Hotel in Roadtown. This is somewhere that I will start recommending more often. They have put a lot of money into upgrading and refurbishing it. It is still under construction and its rates start at $250.00 per night.

Rates do not include a 7% Hotel tax and 10% service charge
