fishing
Do you like to fish? Well, some of our yachts specialize in it! There are varying degrees to the amount that yachts fish, so ask us for our recommendations if you want this to be part of your vacation. Two boats that come to mind, that carry a commercial fishing license in the BVI are Wanderlust and Promenade. Carrying a commercial fishing license means the boat is licensed to catch fish (up to 28 lbs per day! which is probably more then what you will need.
Promenade carries ballyhoo and lures for trolling, a casting net for live bait, frozen squid for bottom fishing, 2 trolling rods, 3 bottom fishing/spinning rods, gaff hook, landing net, various lures, bottom tackle and hand lines as well as 4 rod holders on the aft deck.
can we cook what we catch?
We are often asked if you can eat the fish caught. If you catch pelagic fish (ie tuna, mackerel, dolphin fish) it is generally fine. Most do not keep anything that is caught off the reef, as there is too much chance of ciguatera poisoning, then the policy is catch and release.
flyfishing
If you prefer fly fishing, a sport which is gaining in popularity incredibly fast, then we can make arrangements with Caribbean Fly Fishing here in the BVI to pick you up at your yacht and take you out for a half day or a day. That way, those who do not want to fly fish can enjoy other activities. Click here for a link to their website for more information on what is available, both around Tortola and Anegada.
lobster
Illegal to catch in the BVI, some yachts will hunt for lobster while they are in the USVI waters. Same with spearfishing, illegal for any tourist in the BVI, although the USVI allows it, but don't even think about bringing a spear gun from the USVI to the BVI!
