favorite yachts

There are just some yachts that stand out! Whether it is because you have had successful charters on them in the past, if you just saw them at a boat show and they have showed a marked improvement, or whether they are always being innovative and putting on new toys for the guests to enjoy. This does NOT mean the most expensive yachts. In some ways, if a yacht is very expensive, you are PAYING for them to be among the best in their field! This is more for what catches our eye recently and stands out, and can change on an ongoing basis. These yachts stood out for me at the last Tortola and St Thomas boat show, and I have explained a bit here why.

Gypsy Queen- “Sailing in paradise with a gypsy spirit… and a singing captain!” Bob White has brought this yacht, a 38' Island Packet into charter for the first year. What stood out for me? The captain, he seemed to have a good sense of humor and he is offering some interesting charters for real sailors down along the Venezuela Coast. Read more on Gypsy Queen

Three Moons- Shelly Tucker, one of the owner operators on this 3 crew 72' Irwin is impressive by the amount of energy she has! Being a board member on the VICL (Virgin Islalnds Charter League) she additionally took on running the annual yacht show where the boats market to brokers from around the world! She has a recipe book out, the pictures of her meals look astonishing (she has won several of the charter yacht boat shows culinary competitions), the boat being older, still shows excpetionally well and you can tell that they put a lot of time and money into keeping her up. Free Ingwe- This is another yacht that has been around for a long time. A year or two ago, I would have said, it was pretty tired and don't book it. This year it has a new crew, and the yacht won one of the runner up spots in Best of Show a the recent Charter Yacht Society boatshow. I was on the boat and it looked wonderful. Fresh, crisp, smelled good and as Deb, one of the crew on it, is a former primary teacher, they seemed to have really showcased it for families. It is definitely worth a second look now and I look forward on getting reviews on how the crew have made the charters work. Read more on Free Ingwe

Viking Dream- Mark and Sally, who worked in the Moorings crewed charter yacht fleet, bought this 47' Robertson and Caine out of the fleet and it is amazing how much they have accomplished and done with it over the short time they have had it! It shows wonderfully and I always like owner operator boats. I think it will be a great success. Read more on Viking Dream

Swish- A Mayotte 57' the charter yacht Swish is one of the few charter yachts that is owned by a broker who used to crew it. The new crew, Euros and Emily came from a yacht with quite high standards, True North, and Emily walked away this year with not only the winner award for best overall in the cuisine competition, but also the award for napkin folding with her voodoo doll! Adeia- A brand new boat, and a chef who cooks like a dream! Amanda won the entree competition at the Tortola Boat Show this year. What more could you ask for?
